About

Holding a chicken inside the chicken tractor.
Catching a chicken inside the chicken tractor.

Hi there. I write this blog under my initials, RDG.

I believe that there are systemic problems with the modern food supply. The pursuit of cheap food has resulted in an over abundance of highly processed items lining store shelves. Despite government promises, the safety of this food can not be guaranteed.

The solution is to take responsibility for producing some of our own food. It is also important to know where our food comes from.

That is why I raise chickens, keep bees, garden and shop at farmer’s markets.

What is a homestead?

I like this definition:

homestead
A house, especially a farmhouse, and outbuildings.

I live in an old farmhouse that is over 100 years old. My homestead includes a pole barn, apiary and chicken coop.
